You Can't Have Your Cake and Eat It Too.
(you can't enjoy the advantages of two conflicting activities at once.)
Are we going to see you at Bill's place tonight?
I don't think I'll be able to make it. I've been getting a little static from my wife about our weekly "boy's night out." She's getting tired of being left alone every Friday night. We had a bit of a tiff, and she came right out and told me: "You can't have your cake and eat it too!"
Gee, that's too bad. You'll be missed.
And I'll miss seeing you guys. But she's right. Now that I'm married I can't keep enjoying the advantages of bachelorhood without jeopardizing my relationship with my wife.
I understand, and I'll let the other guys know. But don't hesitate to drop in any time you happen to be free in the future. You'll always be welcome.
static = complaint
